About Convert Image

The three formats solve different problems. JPG compresses photographs extremely efficiently by discarding detail your eye does not notice, but it cannot store transparency and it smears sharp edges. PNG keeps every pixel exactly and supports transparency, which makes it right for logos, screenshots and diagrams and wrong for photographs, where it produces enormous files. WebP does both jobs at roughly 25-35% smaller than either, and is now supported by every current browser.
Most conversions are prompted by something rejecting a file. Forms that only accept JPG, older software that has never heard of WebP, a print shop that wants PNG, or a website whose uploader refuses HEIC images from an iPhone. The other big driver is deliberate optimisation: converting a site's PNG photographs to WebP frequently cuts total page weight by a third with no visible change at all.

Tips & common problems
Converting PNG photos to JPG saves enormously
A photograph saved as PNG is often five to ten times larger than it needs to be, because PNG cannot compress continuous tone efficiently. This single change is the biggest saving available.
Never convert a transparent PNG to JPG
JPG has no transparency, so the removed background fills with solid white. Keep transparent images as PNG or WebP.
WebP is the best default for the web
It handles both photographs and transparency, and produces smaller files than JPG or PNG at equivalent quality. Every current browser supports it.
Lossy conversions accumulate
Each JPG-to-JPG round trip discards a little more detail. Always convert from your original rather than from a file you converted last week.
