These four controls fix the overwhelming majority of everyday photo problems. Pictures taken indoors come out too dark. Photos shot through a window or on an overcast day look flat and washed out. Phone cameras oversaturate, turning a pleasant sky into something lurid. None of this needs professional software — it needs a few seconds with the right sliders.
There is also a practical, non-aesthetic use that comes up constantly: making documents legible. A photographed receipt or page is often grey and murky, and pushing the contrast hard turns muddy grey text into readable black on white. Tips & common problems
Reach for contrast before brightness
A flat photo usually needs contrast, not exposure. Raising brightness alone lifts everything including the blacks, which makes the image look washed out rather than brighter.
High contrast makes documents readable
For a photographed page or receipt, push contrast well up and drop saturation. Grey text becomes black text on white, and the file gets smaller too.
Adjustments are destructive
Each edit re-encodes the image, so repeatedly tweaking an already-adjusted file degrades it. Start from your original and make all your changes in one pass.
Do not overdo saturation
Phone photos are usually already boosted. Adding more turns skin tones orange and skies electric — subtle changes look far more professional.
