About Unlock PDF
Unlock PDF removes the password from a document you can already open, so it stops asking every time. You supply the current password, we decrypt the file and hand back a copy that opens freely. Free, and your upload is deleted immediately afterwards.
Password prompts outlive their usefulness. Banks and payroll systems send statements encrypted with your date of birth or the last digits of an account number, which made sense in transit but is pure friction once the file is sitting in your own archive. If you keep years of statements, being asked for a password every single time you open one — and needing to remember which scheme was in use that year — makes the archive practically unusable.
There is a workflow reason too. Encrypted PDFs cannot be merged, compressed, converted or searched by other software, because none of it can read the contents. If you need to combine twelve monthly statements into one file for an accountant, or run OCR across a protected scan, the password has to come off first. Removing it does not weaken anything you still care about — you can always re-apply protection with Protect PDF once the work is done.

Tips & common problems
You must already know the password
This tool decrypts a file you have legitimate access to. It does not guess, crack or bypass anything, so an unknown password means the document stays closed.
Unlock before batch work
If you plan to merge or compress several protected files, unlock them all first. Every other tool will simply fail on an encrypted input.
Mind where the unlocked copy goes
The decrypted file has no protection at all. If it holds financial or medical information, keep it somewhere sensible rather than leaving it in your Downloads folder.
Bank statement passwords follow patterns
If you cannot recall it, the original email usually explains the scheme — commonly a date of birth as DDMMYYYY, a postcode, or the last four digits of an account number.

Can this crack an unknown password?
No. You must supply the correct password. The tool removes protection you are already authorised to remove — it does not attempt to guess or break encryption, and we would not offer that.
Is my password stored?
No. It is used in memory to decrypt the file and is never written to disk or logged. Both the password and the document are gone the moment the unlocked copy is returned.
Does unlocking change the document?
No. Pages, text, images, formatting and quality are all identical. The only difference is that the encryption layer has been removed.
Why do I need to unlock before merging or compressing?
Encrypted files cannot be read by other tools, so merge, compress and convert all fail on them. Unlocking first makes the document workable again.
Can I put the password back afterwards?
Yes. Use Protect PDF to encrypt the finished document again, with the same password or a new one.
