About Remove Duplicate Lines

Remove Duplicate Lines cleans up any list so every line appears only once. Paste your text, and the first occurrence of each line is kept while repeats are removed — in the original order, or sorted alphabetically, naturally or by length. A summary shows how many duplicates and blank lines were taken out.

Lists pick up duplicates whenever they are combined from more than one place. Merging two email lists, pasting keywords from several tools, collecting URLs from a crawl, or joining attendee names from separate sign-up forms all produce repeats. Sending to the same address twice or counting a keyword twice skews the result, so deduplicating is usually the first clean-up step.

Real data is rarely perfectly consistent. “Ali@example.com” and “ali@example.com ” are the same address to a person but different strings to a computer. Ignoring case and trimming spaces treats them as one, which is what you almost always want for emails, names and tags.

Natural sorting puts “item 2” before “item 10”, the order a person expects, where plain alphabetical sorting would put 10 first. Everything runs in your browser, so customer lists and private data are never uploaded.

How to remove duplicate lines

  1. Paste your list into the left box, one item per line.
  2. Choose whether to ignore case, trim spaces and remove empty lines.
  3. Pick a sort order, or keep the original order.
  4. Check the summary of lines in, lines out and duplicates removed.
  5. Copy the result or download it as a .txt file.

Tips & common problems

Ignore case for emails

Email addresses are effectively case-insensitive, so turn on “Ignore upper/lower case” to catch the same address typed two ways.

The first occurrence wins

When duplicates differ only in case or spacing, the version that appears first in your list is the one kept.

Paste spreadsheet columns directly

Copying a single column from Excel or Google Sheets gives one value per line, which is exactly the input this tool expects.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove duplicates from a list?

Paste the list with one item per line. Duplicates are removed instantly and the unique lines appear on the right.

Does it keep the original order?

Yes, by default. Choose a sort option only if you want the result reordered.

Can it ignore differences in capitals and spaces?

Yes. “Ignore upper/lower case” and “Trim spaces” make lines that differ only in those ways count as duplicates.

What is natural sort?

Sorting that treats numbers inside text by their value, so “file 2” comes before “file 10”.

How long can the list be?

Tens of thousands of lines work comfortably. Processing happens in your browser, so the limit is your device’s memory.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The list is processed entirely in your browser and never sent anywhere.
