PDF to Excel
Pull tables out of a PDF into an editable spreadsheet. Processed on the server; your file is not stored.
Processed on our server and deleted immediately — your file is never stored.
Works best on PDFs with real tables; each page becomes its own sheet.
About PDF to Excel
PDF to Excel finds the tables in your PDF and rebuilds them as an editable XLSX spreadsheet, with the values landing in real cells you can sort, filter and calculate on. Free, and your upload is deleted as soon as the spreadsheet is returned.
The alternative is retyping, and retyping numbers is where errors are born. A supplier sends a price list as a PDF, a bank statement arrives in a format you cannot sum, a research paper contains the dataset you need but only as a printed table. Copying two hundred figures by hand into Excel guarantees at least one transposed digit, and you will not find it until something downstream does not reconcile.
Copy and paste is not the answer either, as anyone who has tried it knows. Selecting a PDF table and pasting into Excel usually dumps every value into a single column, because the PDF has no concept of cells — it stores where each number was printed, not which row and column it belonged to. Reconstructing that grid from the positions is exactly the work this tool does, which is why it succeeds where the clipboard fails.
How to convert PDF to Excel
- Upload the PDF containing the tables you need.
- Wait while the pages are scanned and table structures are reconstructed.
- Download the XLSX file.
- Open it and compare a few rows against the original PDF.
- Check the column alignment carefully before doing any calculations on the data.
Tips & common problems
Always spot-check before calculating
Verify the first row, the last row and a couple in the middle against the PDF. Table detection is inference, and a misread column boundary is far easier to catch now than after it has fed into a total.
Ruled tables convert best
Tables with visible gridlines give the strongest signal about where columns begin and end. Borderless tables separated only by whitespace are the hardest case.
Scans need OCR first
If you cannot select the numbers in the original PDF, there is no text to extract. Run the file through OCR PDF and convert the searchable output.
Merged cells and multi-line rows drift
A cell containing two lines of text, or a heading spanning several columns, is where alignment most often slips. Give those rows a closer look.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a PDF table to Excel for free?
Upload the PDF and download an .xlsx containing the extracted tables. No signup, no payment and no watermark.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Not directly, because a scan contains an image of a table rather than any text. Run it through OCR PDF first, then convert the result here.
Why are some columns misaligned?
PDFs store positioned characters rather than cells, so the grid has to be inferred from spacing. Borderless tables, merged cells and multi-line entries are where that inference is least certain.
Will it find tables across multiple pages?
Yes. Tables are extracted from every page, and a table continuing across a page break is normally joined back together.
Are my numbers kept on your server?
No. Financial data is exactly what people convert here, so the upload is deleted immediately after the spreadsheet is generated, with nothing logged or inspected.
What if my PDF has no tables, just text?
You will get the text laid out in cells, which is rarely useful. For plain prose, PDF to Text or PDF to Word is the better tool.
